I started seriously working at lampworking in January of 2004. I had spent the previous 5 years working part time ( I still had a full time job to pay the bills) as a handbag designer, but felt that I was losing my passion.
I began to look around for another craft. I also was beginning my retirement years at the same time. I somehow stumbled on to glass beads and was just intrigued with the colors and patterns. One of my favorite things about being a handbag designer was choosing fabrics - and combining colors and patterns in my bags.
I took an afternoon lampworking class at a local glass studio and I knew that this would be my next venture.
Because I would be working with oxygen and propane tanks, I had a small studio (Amish shed) built behind my house. I began learning my new craft by reading books by well known lampworkers and practicing for hours and hours.
My goal is to make well crafted glass beads, combining interesting colors and applying unique surface decorations. To then use these beads in an artfully designed piece of jewelry which is a joy to look at and wear, completes my vision for my work.
